Top 5 Tips For Using Your PC Safely!

1. INSTALL THE UPDATES!
Set up your computer for automatic software and operating system updates. An out of date program is more likely to have software vulnerabilities that can be exploited.

2. ALWAYS RUN A ANTI-VIRUS.
Even if it’s a free anti-virus it is better than none (although you get what you pay for). When installed, the software should be set to scan your files and update your virus definitions on a regular basis.

3. Microsoft will NEVER call you.
Its been said before but it’s important to say again, anyone that calls you about your computer (that you cannot or have not met in person) is trying to get money through a scam. HANG UP THE PHONE.

4. Backup, Backup, BACKUP!
Backing up your machine regularly can protect you from the unexpected. Keep a few months’ worth of backups and make sure the files can be retrieved if needed. Learn more about TSM and how to backup your system.

5. Use email and the Internet safely.
Ignore unsolicited emails, and be wary of attachments, links and forms in emails that come from people you don’t know, or which seem “phishy.” e.g. fictitious UPS, or Canada Post delivery notifications,Dropbox sharing requests etc, when in doubt throw it out!
